چکیده

Beginning from the first neutron spin-echo study of the shape fluctuations of mi-croemulsion droplets [J.] these experiments are incorrectly interpreted in the literature. This is due to an inappropriate account for the fluctuations and the erroneous application of the original theory to the description of the experiments (see [V. Lisy and B. Bru-tovsky, Czech J. Phys. 50, 239 (2000)]). In the presented work both these shortcomings are corrected. We develop the theory of static and dynamic light and neutron scattering from droplet microemulsions. The fluids inside and out of the droplets are separated by a surfactant layer of arbitrary thickness. The scattering functions consistently take into account thermal fluctuations of the shapes of such double-layered spheres to the second order in the changes of their radius. The relaxation times and correlation functions of the fluctuations are found within the Helfrich's theory of interfacial elasticity. The theory is applied to the quantitative description of small-angle neutron scattering, neutron spin-echo spectroscopy and dynamic light scattering experiments. Basic characteristics of the microemulsions, extracted from the fits to the experimental data, significantly differ from those determined in the original works. We include into the consideration the viscosity of the surface layer and give its estimation for the octane-C 10 E 5-water microemulsion.

Effect of tocopherol on Pluronic microemulsions: turbidity studies and Dynamic light scattering and dynamic surface tension measurements

The development and design of the biocompatible and biodegradable thermodynamically stable micellar and microemulsion transparent dispersions to reduce the free and unbounded drugs concentration in the blood is a basic challenge in field of drug efficacy and bioavailability of drugs. In the current work, solubilization capacity of the drug (Tocopherol), oil (Ethyl Butyrate), and oil+drug (1:1 m...

Influence of additives on the structure of surfactant-free microemulsions.

We study the addition of electrolytes to surfactant-free microemulsions in the domain where polydisperse pre-Ouzo aggregates are present. As in previous studies, the microemulsion is the ternary system water/ethanol/1-octanol, where ethanol acts as co-solvent. Addition of electrolytes modifies the static X-ray and neutron scattering, and dynamic light scattering patterns, as well as the positio...

Entrapment–D-(+)-Glucose Water Nanodroplet: Synthesis and Dynamic Light Scattering

In the present research, the D-(+)-Glucose–confined water nanodroplets with mean size in the range of 6-11 nm were synthesized at D-(+)-Glucose different concentrations by AOT reverse micelles (RMs) method as a function of mass fraction of droplet (MFD) at the constant water-to-surfactant molar ratio ( W=40). The dynamic light scattering of the nano-sized water droplets containing the D-(+)-Glu...

Properties of surfactant films in water-in-CO2 microemulsions obtained by small-angle neutron scattering.

HYPOTHESIS The formation, stability and structural properties of normal liquid phase microemulsions, stabilized by hydrocarbon surfactants, comprising water and hydrocarbon oils can be interpreted in terms of the film bending rigidity (energy) model. Here, this model is tested for unusual water-in-CO2 (w/c) microemulsions, formed at high pressure with supercritical CO2 (sc-CO2) as a solvent and...

Acoustic Spectroscopy for Characterizing Heptane/H(2)O/AOT Reverse Microemulsions.

Acoustic spectroscopy was used to monitor the droplet size distribution in a classic three component system of heptane, water, and aerosol-OT (AOT). The size of the reverse microemulsion drops was varied by changing the molar ratio of water to AOT surfactant. The acoustic results for this transparent microemulsion were found to be in close agreement with literature results obtained with small a...
